Sonotherapy (Sound Therapy)
What is Sonotherapy?
Sonotherapy works of the principle that everything is vibration. It uses sound, music, and specialized instruments, played in a therapeutic way, to create the environment for the body to go into its own natural healing process to improve health and wellbeing. It is widely accepted that most illnesses are stress related. Specialized sound methods are used to promote relaxation and reduce stress. The vibration of sound works by “massaging” the cells of the body. The healing benefits of sound have been practiced for thousands of years, from the lapping of ocean waves to the chanting of Tibetan monks. Scientists have discovered that sound vibrations can be used to heal bones and treat wounds. Sound waves and vibrations are used to help unblock the energy flow from the chakras of the body.
What does Sonotherapy do?
Vista Mind and Body uses singing bowls, gongs, tuning forks, cymbals, drums, chimes, and other instruments to “bathe” the body in relaxing sound vibrations and frequencies to help align the chakras of the body and promote cleansing and healing. As sound passes through you, it balances the body, mind, and spirit by clearing blockages in the energy flow and helping the body release tension and stress. This can be a targeted sound bath specifically performed for a single individual or a group bath performed for a larger group.
How often can I do treatments?
Sonotherapy treatments can be done daily. There is no evidence that you can overdose on sonotherapy. Vista Mind and Body conducts scheduled one-hour group sound baths and is available for scheduling individual one-on-one sound bath for its clients. Some individuals may greatly benefit by attending sound baths two to three times a week while others may only need to experience one once or twice a month.

What should I expect from Sonotherapy?
A sound bath session (or ceremony) is designed to help with relaxation, attunement of the chakras (body’s energy centers), reduction of stress, release of negativity, and renewal of positive energy. Individuals will sit/lie comfortably in a zero-gravity chair covered with a light blanket in a darkened, intimate sacred space lit with every-changing soothing ambient lighting and candles while being serenaded from all sides with the sounds of over 50 different instruments including crystal and Tibetan singing bowls, gongs, chimes, bells, and drums performed by two trained and certified sound therapists.
Individual responses to a sound bath vary from person to person. One may feel many different results such as heat or cold, shivers, nausea, headache, relaxation, release, relief, etc. while others may feel nothing at all. Reactions can happen immediately or even days to months later. No reaction is positive or negative, it purely “is”. It may mean something to you right away or it could be a mystery for a while. Both are normal. Energy medicine has a cumulative effect, so when you treat yourself to regular sessions, better health and well-being are natural outcomes. At the end of the session, you may share with the Sound Healer anything that came up for you during the session. Before and after a session, you should drink plenty of water and avoid caffeine, alcohol, and nicotine.
